It’s been long since I last felt this
— this apart and this belonging,
so humble and proud in one.
I have spoken to men of science,
I have spoken to women of words.
I have spoken — a creature of silence
and I’ve been seen and heard.
And like a dream it’s over
and I emerge again to a world
where I’m a stranger, and walk alone
yet still in the heart am one.
